Exploring Sustainability in Finance: Professor Roni Michaely’s Quest to Combat Climate Change
Driven by a willingness to cope with challenges and a curious mind, Professor Roni Michaely chose to become a scholar and is currently, a professor of Finance and Entrepreneurship at The University of Hong Kong.
Apart from the prestigious academic status of HKU, what attracted Professor Michaely to choose to join HKU Business School? He shared that his deep interest in Hong Kong’s culture and the amazing opportunity to open an innovation and entrepreneurship center in Israel for HKU both played important roles in his decision.
His research areas of interest have been issues of climate change and sustainability, and he aspires to find out how firms can be encouraged to improve their environmental and social standards to combat climate change. His latest research is exploring whether sustainability is one of the components related to top management compensation and how this would affect their behaviour. At present, his teaching primarily focuses on the journeys the Business School is offering to students and executives when they go to Israel.
