Over the past forty years, China has progressed from an insignificant player in the world to the second-largest economy through the high rate of growth based on its resource-intensive manufacturing and international trade. China also shows its significant transformation from a traditional agricultural country to an innovation leader in many aspects of technology across various industries. During the past ten years, the economic strategy of building China into a cyber superpower in the world further enhanced the importance of innovation and technology which will become a new driving force for China’s development.

The China’s Greater Bay Area initiative is ambitious in transforming the southern region of China, one of the most economically vibrant regions of China, into an international technology and innovation centre. It comprises the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. This bay area has developed the most extensive ecosystem in manufacturing in China and shows its great significance and contribution to technological growth through substantial creativity and innovation of the firms in this region.
