Abstract:
We clarify the relationships between various measures of (increase in) assortative matching, distinguishing the mechanical effects of changes in marginal distributions from deeper structural changes. In the first paper, we study the evolution of assortative matching by education in the United States, and in the second paper, we study the evolution of assortative matching by income in the Netherlands.
