Time: 5:00pm reception; 5:30-6:30pm Seminar

Sinovation Ventures (www.sinovationventures.com/)
In 2017, Dr. Lee wrote the seminal book AI Superpowers in which he predicted China’s rise to become an AI superpower. At that time, this prediction was met with skepticism from the Silicon Valley, but today his book proves to be prescient. Now, in 2022, Dr. Lee’s new book AI 2041 further predicts that a set of advanced technologies will usher in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the greatest technological revolution ever. These technologies include AI, but also robotics, industrial automation, semiconductor chip design, sustainable energy, synthetic biology, drug discovery, multi-omics, and quantum computing. These technologies will synergistically combine to reshape our entire society, re-inventiing all existing industries and creating many new ones, just like the first three industrial revolutions.
This talk will explore whether China can become a deep tech superpower, just like it has become an AI superpower. Dr. Lee will examine China’s growing scientific prowess, exceptional entrepreneurial ecosystem, huge market (and data), and unprecedented government support, and conclude that China has a very good opportunity to co-lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Dr. Lee will describe how his firm Sinovation Ventures invested in AI and helped create ten AI unicorns, and how Sinovation is preparing to expand into all deep sciences, to usher in the era of Fourth Industrial Revolution.
