The inaugural “Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship in China” Summer Programme 2019, which took place in the Greater Bay Area of Mainland China from 23 June to 14 July, was successfully completed.

Aiming to gain a deeper understanding of economics, innovation and entrepreneurship in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and to explore future career opportunities, 29 participants from the Faculty of Business and Economics, HKU and other top universities in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States and Mainland China participated in the CIEC programme held in Hong Kong, Macau and Guangdong Province. The programme was led by FBE faculty members Mr. Joseph Chan and Dr. Jing Li. Mr. Chan and Dr. Li are the Director and Co-director of the CIEC Programme respectively.

After the Opening Ceremony held in HKU on 24 June, the group took lectures presented by innovative companies: Microsoft, Idea Intellectual Ltd., Hong Kong Design Centre, and Under Production Ltd. Besides, the students visited corporates and organisations including Cocoon, DHL Central Asia Hub, Hong Kong Exchange and Clearing Ltd., Hong Kong Science and Technology Park and The Mills.

The group continued their journey in Zhuhai, China on June 28, and visited several fast-growing local firms there. In a day trip to Macau on the next day, students visited the Sands China and learned about recent developments of Macau’s entertainment industry, followed by the lecture by Professor Glenn James McCartney from the University of Macau.

Their excursion also included exploring cities of Guangzhou, Huizhou and Shenzhen and visits to renowned companies including Alibaba, China Resources Group, Chow Tai Fook, E Fund, Huawei, Konka, Lee Kum Kee, LN Hotel and TusStar. Students took the opportunity to visit the Shenzhen Industrial Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning Exhibition. They were also briefed by the representatives from Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the history and future development of the Greater Bay Area.

The three-week summer programme was concluded by the Business Innovation Competition, which aims to consolidate the experience and knowledge acquired from all the intensive lectures and corporate visits.
