Prof. Fong’s first encounter with HKU culminated in his graduation with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business. At that time, the Economics and Business stream was still part of the Faculty of Social Sciences. After graduation, Prof. Fong followed a career path in the public service as an Administrative Officer in the HKSAR Government.
Prof. Fong’s second encounter with HKU took place when the Faculty of Social Sciences invited him to deliver a speech as a distinguished alumni at the 40th anniversary of the faculty on the topic of “On Becoming a Global Citizen.” At that time, it was the beginning of his switch to a career path in the private sector, first as the CEO of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, then as owner/entrepreneur in two electronics manufacturing businesses and further as an independent non-executive director in several companies listed in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Prof. Fong is now venturing into his third encounter with HKU. This time with a new mission – to take up teaching and research activities in HKU Business School as an adjunct professor.
Prof. Fong is a scholar-practitioner. As a believer in life-long learning, he has continued to pursue scholastic research and teaching activities alongside his career pursuits. His scholastic journey covers both empirical science and the humanistic studies and he adopts a multi-disciplinary approach in his research and teaching activities. In his DBA research, he developed a 2P3C Model to understand the sustainability of corporate human capital competitiveness. In his PhD research, he created a set of tools comprising differentiators, integrators and connectors to help us understand the patterns of self–others interaction experience among stakeholders. They can be deployed by CEOs to support oneness as an enterprise governance approach focusing on responsible leadership, enterprise well-being, and enterprise sustainability. You can learn more about Prof. Fong’s research and coaching activities at http://www.tapping-point.com.
Having worked, studied, and lived in multiple places like New York City, Tokyo, London, Cambridge, Oxford, Beijing, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong and Singapore, he looks forward to tapping into his broad intellectual, sectoral and geographic experience to create an encounter of a different kind as he takes up this new venture at HKU Business School.
