Dr. Xiaoying Xie obtained her BA in History from Fudan University. She obtained MA and PhD in Communication from University of Maryland, College Park. Before coming to Hong Kong, She taught in the Department of Communication at California State University, Sacramento. Her research interests include conflict management and negotiation, persuasion, and intercultural communication. Her current research focuses on how emotional appeals in persuasive messages influence individuals from different cultures by using perspectives novel to their cultural values; How perceived self- and other-roles in a conflict/negotiation situation affect individuals’ conflict handling strategies, through the mediating mechanisms of emotion and cognition.
Dr. Xie’s teaching interest involves intercultural communication, business communication, conflict management and negotiation.
