Biography

Liang Tan (Roy) joined HKU Business School in May 2024 as the Professor of Practice in Management and Strategy, focusing on exploring integrated organisational management systems that combine Eastern and Western elements through his deep expertise in global leadership and organisational transformation.

Roy’s research interests include Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship,  Organizational Transformation and Innovation, Strategic Management, Human Resource Management.

Before joining HKU Business School, Roy worked with several major global organisations, including General Electric and Alibaba Group, holding key management positions and accumulating extensive international and domestic experience and insights in global leadership and organisational transformation. He has previously held positions such as the Global Executive Dean of Alibaba Corporate University, Dean of GE Crotonville in China, CHRO of Alibaba’s B2C Retailing Business Group, and Head of Organizational Transformation and Talent Development for Taobao and Tmall Group. Roy has accumulated more than 20 years of impactful experience interacting with top executives of Fortune Global 500 companies.

While achieving significant accomplishments in global corporate practices, Roy has also amassed extensive global teaching experience. Over the past 20 years, he has taught Global Leadership courses in English across North America, Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America. Domestically, he has been invited to lecture at national institutions such as the National School of Administration and the China Business Executive Academy. Additionally, he has personally visited dozens of large domestic enterprises, instructing over three thousand mid-to-senior level leaders on topics including corporate strategy, organizational change, leadership and corporate culture.
